Green Roots Initiative

The Green Roots Initiative by Lotus India Foundation Trust is a long-term environmental program designed to restore greenery, promote sustainable habits, and build eco-conscious communities across Rajasthan. The initiative began with a simple belief — that every tree planted today becomes a promise for a cleaner, healthier, and more hopeful tomorrow.

Under this program, we collaborate with schools, gram panchayats, and local volunteers to organize large-scale tree plantation drives in villages, public spaces, and community institutions. Each plantation activity is planned carefully to ensure survival, not just planting. From selecting native species suited to local soil and climate to post-plantation care and watering cycles, every detail is tracked and monitored for long-term impact.

The program has three core components:

  1. Community Plantation Drives:
Villagers, students, and local youth participate in planting saplings of neem, peepal, banyan, amaltas, and fruit-bearing trees. Each participant adopts one sapling as their “green responsibility,” ensuring ongoing care and protection.
  2. School Green Corners:
Partnering with government and private schools, we help establish small gardens or “green corners” within campuses. These spaces teach children about biodiversity, waste segregation, and the importance of preserving nature from a young age.
  3. Awareness & Education Workshops:
Environmental awareness sessions are conducted in collaboration with local panchayats, emphasizing water conservation, soil health, composting, and reducing plastic use. These workshops aim to build a culture of environmental responsibility in rural areas.

Our goal extends beyond tree planting — we aim to nurture a movement of eco-leaders and green volunteers who continue to expand this mission year after year.

Since its launch, the Green Roots Initiative has planted over 10,000 saplings across rural Rajasthan, with an average survival rate of 85%, thanks to community ownership and regular monitoring.

The Foundation also organizes annual “Green Panchayat Awards” to recognize villages and volunteers that maintain the highest number of thriving trees. These awards encourage healthy competition and long-term environmental care among communities.

Our partners include local schools, Forest Department, CSR contributors, and volunteers who donate either saplings, tools, or funds for maintenance. Corporate CSR teams often participate through employee volunteering programs, combining environment and community service in one impactful experience.

The Green Roots Initiative contributes directly to India’s commitment toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 13: Climate Action
  • SDG 15: Life on Land
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

By fostering a sense of environmental stewardship, Lotus India Foundation Trust is turning barren lands into thriving ecosystems and inspiring people to take ownership of their surroundings.

Each tree planted is a reminder that growth begins with giving back — and that a single act of planting can become a lifetime of hope.

Impact Goals (2025–2027):

  • Plant and sustain 50,000 trees across Rajasthan
  • Establish Green Corners in 100 schools
  • Conduct 150 awareness workshops in rural and semi-urban areas
  • Engage 5,000+ volunteers through community participation
  • Achieve 80% survival rate of planted saplings within 3 years
